SIX OF SWORDS
THE RIVER STYX:
The soul of the dead is travelling to Hades, the land of the eternal shadows. The beasts of the abyss, the deepest archetypes of the collective unconscious rise up from the abysmal waters. They threaten to devour the human soul, the light of consciousness.
The soul is in chains. She is bound to the mast of the bark of Asveron, the ferryman of death. He guides the departed soul to Hades.
The ferryman of the dead is death himself. The swords on the bark slay sin and illusions, purify the suffering soul and cut off despair and desolation.
THE RED DRAGON:
The archetype of the great world mother or the world soul.
THE GREEN SERPENT:
The archetype of the great world father, the symbol of the spirit.
The vulture of the land of death picks the soul clean of sin.
THE SEVEN-HEADED HOUND OF HELL:
Cerburus, the seven-headed hound of hell is waiting to devour the tears and the wails of the desperate soul. He eats the despair of the soul until nothing is left but space. Only those whom he has purified may enter the castle of death, which is the gatewayto rebirth.
VALUE OF THE CARD:
This is the card of death. Death is the great initiator, the bearer of the secret of immortality. Loss of a close one. Danger. Mortal danger threatens. The end of a journey, a relationship, endeavor, a job or a marriage. Life moves in tidal waves. This is the end of a cycle. The end of a business venture.
